Hamburg, which sits at the intersection of the Schuylkill Canal, the railroad and the Centre Turnpike, was the site of some of the early industry in Pennsylvania’s Americana Region. It has been said that the town with mills and early factories had more jobs per capita than any other town of its size in the country in the mid-20th century. Stores and other businesses drew customers from the countryside for miles around.

As you stroll through the historic district, remember that you are walking through more than 200 years of history that has been preserved as a cohesive, working community. Look up to see the detailing on the historic architecture that recalls another time and place.
