Dating back to 1743, Reading has grown to the fifth largest city in Pennsylvania. It is known for its industrial past, the Reading Railroad and of late, year round entertainment. In summer the City Park Band Shell concerts, and the Downtown Alive! series bring popular performers to the city for free musical events. As the temperatures drop, the annual Holiday Parade, and Fire & Ice Fest offer reason to celebrate the cold. Spring brings the popular, ten day long, Berks Jazz Fest. Entertainment Square, home to the GoggleWorks Center for the Arts, Reading Movies 11 & IMAX, and the Miller Center for the Arts is the place to go for art, movies, and theatre. Attend Reading Royals Ice Hockey games, major concerts, ice shows, and even rodeos at the Santander Arena or take in a concert by the 150 year old Reading Symphony Orchestra at the Santander Performing Arts Center. A new hotel, the DoubleTree by Hilton offers a central location to stay while enjoying all Reading has to offer. When in Reading, look for Downtown Improvement District ambassadors, clad in red shirts and jackets, to provide directions, assistance, even walk visitors from a venue to a car or hotel.
Reading Downtown Improvement District is the Main Street organization for this town.
