Plan to spend a serene hour hiking through a wildflower patch filled with butterflies, a forest of ancient ferns and along side a pool that’s a springtime home for frogs, as you make your way through the Earl Poole Sanctuary, a former farm with an orchard, that includes the trails, a stream and picnic areas. A popular location for birders viewing red-tailed hawks and great horned owls, the sanctuary owned by Berks Nature is open for touring at any time, even though nature walks are scheduled at various intervals. Enjoy mature forests, meadows, young forests and the headwaters of Antietam Creek.
