Despite its name, this trail not only accommodates horses, but hikers as well.  Its lush, rural landscapes and historic landmarks allows you to explore your way through Pennsylvania’s Americana Region.  The trail has a long history dating back to the 18th  century and played a vital role with our iron industry.  You see, it originally connected the various furnaces and forges throughout the region like Hopewell Furnace and French Creek State Park.  You can pick the Horse Shoe trail up for hiking and horseback riding in several locations in Berks County or start your journey from Valley Forge National Historic Park and follow it to a section of the Appalachian Trail to our west.

Maintained by the Horse-Shoe Trail Conservancy, this is definitely one trail you want to travel.  To find out more and get directions go to:  www.hstrail.org.
