At one point in the late 1800s, there were five huge resort hotels on Neversink Mountain, and most of today’s Nine Mile Neversink Loop is on the route that the doubletrack gravity rail used to access the grand hotels here during the early 1900’s, built around the mineral springs considered to be “healing waters.” The astounding views from the mountain south of Reading gave rise to its Native American name meaning “at the promontory.” The singletrack is covered with loamy dirt and even has few technical rock sections. It’s a real treat for the intermediate to advanced rider and a great place to build fitness, however, the ride does contain a fair amount of climbing.
